Newborn Photography: Capture Your Baby's First Moments

The ideal time for newborn photography is within 5–15 days after birth, when babies are sleepier, curlier, and easier to pose safely.

For every new parent, there is no greater priority than making sure their baby is safe, comfortable, and cared for.

At Forever Image Durham, we understand this deeply — which is why baby safety is the heart of every newborn photography session we create.

Newborn photography should never feel rushed, forced, or stressful for your little one.

Our sessions are designed entirely around your baby’s natural needs, allowing plenty of time for feeding, cuddling, diaper changes, soothing, and rest.

We follow a gentle, baby-led workflow, meaning we carefully observe your baby’s comfort and only guide them into poses that feel natural and secure.

Our studio is always kept:

Each pose is completed slowly and patiently with soft support, trained handling, and constant attention to your baby’s breathing, flexibility, and overall well-being.

For more advanced artistic portraits, many images are created using safe composite techniques, where baby is fully supported at all times and final images are carefully blended in editing.

This means that while the final portrait may look delicate and magical, your baby is never placed in an unsafe position.

Most importantly, we never force a baby to do something they are uncomfortable with.

If your baby needs to eat, cuddle, cry, stretch, or simply be held for a while — we pause, comfort, and continue only when baby is ready.

At Forever Image Durham, our goal is not only to create timeless images, but to give parents complete confidence that their precious little one is being photographed with patience, warmth, and loving care.

We recommend booking during pregnancy to reserve your due date on our calendar. Simply send us your due date or baby’s birth date and preferred collection. We will guide you through the booking process. I will keep a date open for you.  Send me a confirmation when the baby actually arrives. If necessary the date can be rescheduled.

No need. We provide all wraps, blankets, headbands, bonnets and carefully selected props for your session.

Yes! Family portraits and sibling portraits are always welcome and beautifully included depending on your selected collection.

That is completely normal. We allow plenty of soothing time during the session and work patiently around your baby’s needs.

These details matter because newborn babies are extremely sensitive to temperature, sound, and sudden handling.

A safe newborn photography session is always slow, patient, and responsive to baby’s needs.

After each session, we thoroughly sanitize and clean everything to ensure that all wraps and props used for the baby are clean and hygienic.

Most newborn sessions last between 30mins–3 hours to allow feeding, changing and soothing breaks as needed.

I only do it in my studio. I have a large selection of props & backgrounds, a stable light source, and the photos are guaranteed to turn out well and meet your requirements. Babies are safe & comfortable! 

We recommend soft neutral tones such as cream, beige, white or light earth colors for a timeless elegant look. 

Your professionally edited gallery will be delivered within 3-4 weeks after you select your favorites. HD Photos will be delivered via download link. You can copy the link and paste it to whoever wants to download it.

All photos’ colour will be adjusted through Lightroom, and unwanted subjects will be removed from background through Photoshop, then send them all to you, when you receive all the 1st edited photos, you can select 8 or 10 for detailed retouching .

It means the elimination of all the imperfections from a photo, which usually includes

1. Crop

2. Face colour and tone correction 

3. Blemishes and under-eye circles removal, 

4. Removal of skin imperfections

5. Body Slimming

The session includes some retouch photos, each extra  retouch photo $15. 

We only keep with the number of photos included in the type of the session you picked, and I will focus on taking variety of the poses base on the session you book for, duplicated photos will be deleted or purchased. 

We only provide JPEG format!

In preparation for the session please:

1. Extra 10 diapers * ：）
2. Soother (pacifier) * the right size. 
3. Extra Formula or Bottles of milk is required! * (It would be nice if the baby had a bottle of milk to sooth it back to sleep during the photo session.) and make sure you have the right bottle nipple size. 
4. A breastfed baby session takes longer. Prepare some bottle milk or formula & Soother - Must have.
5. A Session topically lasts 30mins -3 hours ：）it depends on the baby’s mood & the session type. Please make sure to leave plenty of time for the session.
6. Parents’ Fingernails should be neat & clean because some of the photos will be close-ups for “Baby in hands” 
7. Bring some lotion if baby still has newborn peeling skin
8. Bring a clean change of clothes for your baby
9. Choose some of your favourite setups included in the session that you book,  from my website so I can set up my studio ahead of time. Sample photos,  I will do my best to create the style you love. At the same time, we will choose the safest and most comfortable poses and setups based on your baby’s flexibility, age, and how the baby feels on the day of the session.
10. Family members can have their photos at the beginning or end of the session if you booked for Newborn with a family package.
11. The babies props & outfits are all provided. Outfits are not provided for parents & siblings. 
12. Family photo outfit requires black (any dark colour) or white (any light colour) shirts with short or loose sleeves.   (The reason we use dark or black T-shirts and black background is to help conceal the body that has not yet recovered fully from the effects of pregnancy. ) but if you prefer, you can bring your own with any of your preferred matching colours & tones for family photos.
13. My Studio has Nursing Pillow & Bottle Warmer.
14. Please ensure to be here on time , because my schedule is pretty full, that way we will be sure that we have plenty of time for your session.
15. We also take infant Passports & Visa photos
